曾先後擔任國務院總理及中共總書記的趙紫陽先生於2005年1月17日清晨7時01分離世。今年是趙紫陽先生逝世十周年,支聯會對這位在八九民運中,敢於抗衡當權保守派,拒絕以武力鎮壓學生運動,在「六四」後沒有改變立場,反對軍隊血腥鎮壓,具政治良知,錚錚風骨的前領導人致以深切哀悼。支聯會將於1月4日至17日,舉辦一連串悼念活動,回顧趙紫陽先生在促進中國經濟、政治改革以至支持民運上的貢獻,並探討中國走向民主、公義的路向。

支聯會呼籲香港市民、內地同胞和所有關注中國民主發展的人士,積極參與以上活動,一同紀念趙紫陽先生,並共同思考中國的未來。

Grieve Ziyang Rehabilitate “June 4th” Construct Democracy--「10th Anniversary of Zhao Ziyang’s Decease Commemoration」

Introduction

Mr. Zhao Ziyang was the Premier of the People’s Republic of China and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China successively in his political career before he passed away at 7:01 a.m. on January 17, 2005.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Mr. Zhao Ziyang’s decease. Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China expresses deep condolence for this ex-political leader who had the political conscience, strength, and courage to hold his stand against the Conservatives in power at the 1989 pro-democracy movement. His refusal on employing force to oppress students remained even after the Tiananmen Massacre.

Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China will be hosting a series of memorial events to recollect Mr. Zhao Ziyang’s contribution in promoting China’s economy, encouraging political reform, and supporting pro-democratic movements as well as to explore the path to democracy and social justice in China.

1. “The Thematic Exhibition of Zhao Ziyang” at “June 4th Museum” and Condolence Book

Date: January 4th, 2015 (Sunday) to January 17th, 2015 (Saturday)

Time: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday)

10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Saturday and Sunday)

Venue: June 4th Museum- 5/F Foo Hoo Centre, 3 Austin Avenue, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong

* Signing condolence book: display pictures of Zhao Ziyang, summary of Zhao Ziyang’s life, and condolence book (Citizens are welcome to sign at the museum).

* Thematic exhibition of Zhao Ziyang: thematic exhibition, small book fair, videos, etc.

Speakers include: Professor Joseph Yu-shek Cheng, JP (Chair Professor of Political Science at City University of Hong Kong), Mr. Willy Wo-Lap Lam (Journalist and commentator on China Affairs based in Hong Kong, ex-deputy editor for South China Morning Post), Mr. Ching Cheong (Senior journalist), Mr. Albert Chun-yan Ho (Chairman of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China).

Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China appeals those Hong Kong citizens, China citizens, and everyone who is concerned about the development of democracy in China, to actively participate in the events listed, to commemorate Mr. Zhao Ziyang and jointly reflect on China’s future.
