當年,沒有人想到,一場悼念,會演變為一場席捲全國的民主運動;

只因着心中那團怒火,必須宣洩,必須表達;
那時的你們,並未以改寫歷史作為悼胡的目的;

官富民窮,國強民弱;
貪腐猖獗,貧富懸殊;
權貴橫行,法紀崩壞;
國有資產被吞併掠奪;

.「天安門母親」群體堅毅不屈地為死難家屬討公道,要求真相、問責和賠償;
.蔣彥永醫生於「六四」夜目睹死傷慘重的實況。他要求為「六四」正名為愛國民主運動;
.徐勸先軍長拒絕帶軍隊入京鎮壓學生,為此服刑五年;
.陳雲飛為「六四」被殺的死難學生掃墓;四川維權人士在微信銷售瓶身標籤王維林擋坦克照片的「銘記八酒六四」。他們都被控「煽動顛覆國家政權罪」而鎯鐺入獄;

齊共記起血淚情,待昭雪;

心中深處始終也記憶那年那夕;
深深相信始終會變真某年某夕;

" Eulogy " (The Alliance’s 2017 June 4th Candlelight Vigil )

1989 democracy movement began with mourning, and ended with death.
28 years ago, you came to the Square because of the death of Hu Yaobang.
After 28 years, we came to the Victoria Park because of your sacrifice.

No one in that year would have thought that mourning would evolve into nationwide democracy movements;
No one would ever thought that the mourning for you would be the most sensitive act in this country for 28 years.
 Often people asked, is mourning meaningful?
Now we have no perfect answer; then you might not have seriously thought about that.
Only because the anger must be vented and expressed;
Only because the pain cannot be hidden or forgotten.
At that time rewriting history was not your purpose of mourning Hu;
As we are not trying to achieve anything by gathering here by virtue of your name.

Just simply in grief, anger, thoughts about you.
After all mourning is the most natural expression of emotions.
However in the past 28 years, people were thrown into prison and persecuted because of this expression of emotion, including still prisoners Chen Bing, Fu Hailu, Luo Fuyu, Zhang Junyong, Chen Yunfei and so on. We keep their names in remembrance,and may you guard them with your spirits.

We are fortunate in Hong Kong not to be jailed for expressing sorrow, and to be free to tell you whatever we want to, whether it is an impassioned promise or a tender and innocent inquiry.
But this luck comes with unshirkable responsibility. Those who are capable should take a few more steps, speak for those who cannot, and mourn for those who cannot, so that, those alive may be relieved, and the dead may rest.

And the best comfort to you are that the truth of ‘June 4th’ can be revealed to all, that the executioners are punished, that your loved ones are free to mourn, and that justice is done. These goals are, for 28 years, what we have promised you every year to continuously strive for.

We cannot tell you that China’s current democratic movement is in great shape, nor that the end of one-party dictatorship is close. The monitoring from the state is increasingly tight and civic society is dying. Many activists are lost and failed to find the way to unity. However, although civic protests have to turn underground, they never stop. Even if the direction is unclear, they never stop trying. Though the cost is high, people dare endure the long prison terms. In the process of seeking justice and democracy, we have done our best. Please forgive us where our work is not good enough. Please believe that we have not wavered from our original ideal, and we will carry on, until the day justice is done. We will continue to act, voice out, and protect your memories.

At this moment, we still do not know what fruit can come to bear from the mourning in Victoria Park for 28 consecutive years. We only know that in the remembrance of you, in the spirit of justice, hope for the future, and the affection and love among humans, the candlelight in Victoria Park will glow on.

" Manifesto of Hong Kong Alliance" ( The Alliance’s 2017 June 4th Candlelight Vigil )

The night before and this day 28 years ago:
At the Tiananmen Square in Beijing, the Communist Party of China (CCP) smashed the democratic ideals of young students with tanks. In the Chang’an Avenue of the Capital, the People’s Liberation Army used guns to suppress the people’s anti-corruption protest.

In these 28 years:
The CCP has accelerated economic reform but at the same time strengthened their political dictatorship, constantly tightening the freedom of the people and society. Some people said that repression was the price for stability so the country could be prosperous for 28 years! But whose country is this? Is this a country of the people?

Today, after 28 years:
Xi the core leader called for achieving the great China Dream, but look at this country…

. The officials are rich and the people are poor. The nation is strong and the people are weak.
. There is rampant corruption and a huge gap between rich and poor.
. Bigwigs run wild. Law and discipline has collapsed.
. State-owned assets are plundered and public resources are abused!

Does this country belong to the people?

Today, after 28 years:

. The CCP abuses state violence and eliminates all so-called ‘turmoil’ in the bud.. The party leader advocates ‘The Four Confidences’, while the people have to obey ‘Seven Speak-Nots’. State-owned media only represent the party. The internet is blocked, and private communications are strictly monitored.

In civic society:

Rights protests are frequent as social injustice and public dissent are overwhelming. White terror from the Party and state creates a large number of political prisoners and leads to lots of literary inquisitions. Protesters are missing, kidnapped, illegally detained, tortured and made to plead guilty publicly. Secret unlawful prisons are everywhere. Arbitrary arrests by secret police is the ‘new norm’!

In today’s China:

The CCP has fabricated the ‘New Five Black Categories’ , thus becoming the enemy of the people. Political and social moral have degenerated. Government credibility has gone bankrupt. Soft power totally gone!

Even in the darkness, we still hear the cry of the people: Liu Xiaobo who promoted ‘Charter 08′, Xu Zhiyong who advocated the New Citizens’ Movement, and imprisoned rights activists, rights lawyers, dissidents and church workers etc. Imprisoned, they are radiating the brilliance of justice and human dignity!

Hong Kong in the 28th year after ‘June 4th’ and 20th year after handover:

Hong Kong people, with our firm will and tenacious perseverance, have no fear of wind or rain tonight every year in holding up the candlelight here, saying ‘no’ to dictatorship with conscience and courage.

We will continue to bear the responsibility of guarding the truth of ‘June 4th’, never allowing distortion, tempering or denial of history. We firmly believe that people who experienced ‘June 4th’ in Hong Kong and the Mainland have a common collective memory and will refuse to forget!

Here tonight, we pay tribute to the people and groups who have fought for justice and the vindication of ‘June 4th’ all these 28 years:

. The ‘Tiananmen Mothers’ have persevered in calling for justice for their families of victims, demanding truth, accountability and compensation;

. Dr Jiang Yanyong, who witnessed the heavy casualties on the night of ‘June 4th’, has called for renaming ‘June 4th’as a patriotic democratic movement;

. Commander Xu Qinxian has refused to bring troops into Beijing to suppress the students and served a five-year sentence for it;

. Chen Yunfei conducted graveside rituals for the ‘June 4th’ student victims, while Sichuan activists sold ‘remember 8964’ wine through WeChat with bottle labels of pictures of Wang Weilin blocking the tanks. They were accused of ‘inciting subversion of state power’ and put in jail;

. Li Wangyang was sentenced to nearly 22 years in support of the pro-democracy movement and finally ‘was committed suicide’ five years ago.

They are epoch-making conscience! They are giants of moral courage!

Let us once again hold up our candlelight and pay tribute to the ‘June 4th’ heroes and the people who have been fighting for democracy and freedom in the Mainland and Hong Kong for 28 years!

In the 20 years after handover, the CCP has been suppressing democracy and human rights in Hong Kong, intervening into Hong Kong affairs and imposing dictatorial practice on Hong Kong. Hong Kong people will refuse the dark invisible hand of the CCP! We shall stand at the forefront of democracy, human rights and freedom, unite the Chinese people, end dictatorial rule and fight for democracy. ‘June 4th’ will be vindicated. The dictatorship will end. A democratic constitutional polity will return in victory!

Release the dissidents! Rehabilitate the 1989 pro-democracy movement! Demand accountability for the June 4th massacre! End one-party dictatorship! Build a democratic China!

Vindicate June 4th! End dictatorial rule!
